In the twilight years of the Third Imperium, an angel was reborn. The Twilight Angel is a rebuilt, old, Imperial gunship. The group bought the ship from Doc's old friend Mannie on the day the news services announced the assassination of Emperor Strephon. This was half of how she got her name. The other half comes from Doc's remembrance of such gunships as angels of mercy, descending on the battlefield to retrieve soldiers.

Twilight Angel was LT-053129, a special forces variant of a Durance-class Marine Transport. The ship was originally laid down in 1059 as part of the Durance/Clydesdale building program. Both classes were designed to support Imperial Marine landings. The Clydesdale gunship was the smaller of the two craft. Armed with turret lasers and missile launches, the maneuverable Clydesdale was designed primarily to provide air support but it was also capable of transporting small units short distances (usually to or from a larger ship in orbit). The Durance corvette was the larger, more flexible of the two designs. It could carry a Marine platoon plus vehicles for an extended time and larger units for a shorter time. The Durance also mounted laser turrets and missile launchers, but had greater punch and endurance. Both ships were often referred to as "Angels of Mercy" because of their ability to punch their way into a hot combat zone to extract trapped marines.

LT-053129 began life as a standard 4-deck Corvette Transport. At the outbreak of the Fifth Frontier War, LT-053129 was refitted for service with Imperial Marine Special Forces, which included upgraded weaponry and electronic warfare equipment. After the war, LT-053129 was stripped of it's weaponry and electronic warfare equipment and re-designated QT-053129, Auxiliary Transport, and used by the Imperial Navy to transport cargo and equipment to remote bases until it was sold for scrap in 1114.

The scrapyard owner who purchased her could not bear to break her up and instead held onto her and eventually convinced our little band to purchase and rebuild her.
