History

Born Ioannes Theseus Longinus, illegitimate son of his Lordship the Baron von Dhian. His mother worked in a gentleman's club that the Baron frequented. Doc grew up admiring both of his parents. The Baron was, on the whole, an honorable man who did his best for the people of Dhian and was well loved. His mother worked long hours with few complaints     refusing the charity of her lover. She ensured that her son received an excellent education, though he did not appreciate it at the time.

Doc had just completed his third year of medical school when his mother was raped and murdered. Both Doc and the Baron were crushed. Ainia had been the bright center to both of their universes. As people often do after suffering great pain, Doc and his father both said things they didn''t mean and, after a heated argument, Doc left Dhian and enlisted in the Imperial Marines. A few months later the Fifth Frontier War broke out. His medical skills earned him the nickname "Doc" from his fellow marines. His bravery earned him a field commission.

During the final months of the war the Baron's only surviving, legitimate son, Lt. Commander Conrad von Dhain, was killed in battle. The loss of a second loved one in such a short time took a great toll on the Baron''s health. By the end of the war the Baron was in very poor condition. Ignoring his advisers, the Baron officially recognized Doc as his son and heir and petitioned the Emperor to recognize Doc as the next Baron von Dhain. On December 7th    1110     Baron Johann Francis Leopold von Dhain died in his bed. The Emperor''s confirmation of Doc as the Baron's heir arrived less than 2 months later.

First Lieutenant Longinus was released from his duties with the Imperial Marines so that he could take up his post as Baron Ioannes Theseus Longinus von Dhain, hereditary head of the government of the planet Dhain. By the time of the old Baron's death, however, all of the legal authority rested in the hands of the bureaucracy who did not feel that the illegitimate son of a stripper was an appropriate leader for the people of Dhain. Before Doc had time to unpacked a new law was already being debated in the Senate. Within weeks the law had passed, removing the Imperial Baron from the planetary government and vesting his powers in the President of the Senate. The Baronial palace and grounds were seized and declared property of the government. \r\n\r\nDoc decided not to contest the change. He knew little about his duties as Baron and his heart was not in the job. The Imperial bureaucracy continued to handle the day to day affairs of the liaison between the Imperial and planetary governments. Doc was neither needed nor wanted. He left Dhain feeling that he had failed both his mother and his father. Since that time he has traveled under the name John Long and preferring the company of gamblers, gunmen and whores to that of his "peers."
